櫻本坊にとって、原点そのものであられる天武天皇。
当山を建立された天武天皇の御遺徳をしのび、感謝申し上げるのが、天武天皇祭。
天武天皇へ向けられる感謝の意と、我々の祈り想いは、天武天皇が櫻本坊に繋げて下さった、光の柱を通じて、天照大神へと届けられます。
かつては天武天皇のご神像がお祀りされていましたが、明治の廃仏毀釈の荒波のなか行方知れずとなりました。 岡倉天心デッサンのもと(東博所蔵)、フェノロサの調査記録に基づき、平成の時代に復興させて頂いたのが、現在のお姿です。
神道・仏教ともに精通されていた、天武天皇。当山では、神仏習合のシンボルともいえるお姿の御宝前にて、神事法要が厳修されています。

13:00 Emperor Tenmu Prayers Service starts
40th Japanese Emperor Tenmu who erected Sakuramotobou was well versed in Shintoism and Buddhism in order to govern a nation peacefully. The statue of him which generally is enshrined behind the double-doors exactly symbolizes the syncretism of Shintoism and Buddhism, opening to the public between 11th-19th November.
Your prayers will be delivered to Amaterasu Ohmikami by Emperor Tenmu. We wish all your wishes will come true and this opportunity of facing him will fill your life with lights and love.
